a woodpecker that was confirmed as being extinct in 1920 has been re-discovered in North America. The ivory-billed woodpecker was spotted by a man who was kayacking in the woods and when it flew towards him it looked so unusual that he contacted cornell university's bird magazine to find out what it was. Apparently it took a year to capture the bird on video, but ornithologists worldwide say this find is very signifficant as it opens up hope that other birds presumed extinct might still be surviving in isolated places.
Good for the woodpecker. It's great to know that some birds we thought we'd never see again are still hiding out waiting to be re-discovered.
